At a glance.
A course-based treatment with a short recovery period.
Your skin's own repair response, prompted deliberately
That process is sometimes called collagen induction therapy, because what produces the result is the collagen your skin makes in response — not anything applied to the surface.
It is used on the face and the body, for texture, scarring and stretch marks.
How does microneedling work?
The device passes fine needles into the skin at a set depth, creating controlled micro-channels. These are small enough to heal quickly but sufficient to trigger the skin's natural wound-healing response.
That response includes producing new collagen and remodelling existing tissue in the treated area. Over the following weeks the skin rebuilds, which is where the change in texture and firmness comes from.
The depth is adjusted to the area and the concern — shallower for general texture, deeper where scarring is being addressed. This is why we assess your skin at the start of your appointment, before the first treatment.
What happens in a session.
A methodical treatment, with a short recovery period afterwards.
Consult & assess
Your appointment begins here. We assess your skin, confirm suitability, agree the depth and area, and set out how many sessions are likely to be sensible.
Preparation
The area is cleansed and prepared, and comfort is discussed and managed before starting.
Treatment
The device is worked across the treatment area at a controlled depth, adjusted to the concern.
Aftercare
Redness is expected afterwards. We give you specific aftercare guidance for the area treated.
When will I see results?
Typical timeframes rather than a schedule. Results vary between individuals, and your own plan is agreed at your appointment.
Redness and sensitivity settle over the days following treatment.
The skin's repair and remodelling response develops in the treated area.
Changes in texture and scarring build progressively as sessions are completed.
The collagen response continues developing for a period of months after your course.
How many sessions will I need?
Microneedling is a course treatment. A single session prompts a response, but the visible change comes from that response repeating and building across several treatments.
Sessions are spaced to allow the skin to recover and remodel between them. For texture, fewer sessions are often enough; for scarring and stretch marks, a course of four is usual, and a discount applies to those courses.
We agree the number with you at your appointment rather than committing you in advance.

Which microneedling treatment is right for me?
Portland offers two microneedling treatments and they are not the same.
Dermapen is microneedling alone — fine needles prompting the skin's repair response. DermaPro RF adds radiofrequency energy delivered through the needles, so it works on skin firmness alongside texture and scarring.
Neither is better. Dermapen is the more targeted option where texture or scarring is the concern; DermaPro RF is the choice where firmness matters too. We will explain our reasoning at your appointment.
What should I expect afterwards?
Redness similar to mild sunburn is expected for a period afterwards, and the skin can feel tight or sensitive. How long this lasts varies by person and by the depth treated.
This is not a no-downtime treatment. We will tell you exactly what to plan around for your area before we begin, and give you aftercare guidance on the day.
Dermapen Microneedling prices
Dermapen microneedling is £125 per session. A course of four is recommended for acne scar and stretch mark treatment.

Frequently asked questions
If your question is not here, ask us on WhatsApp — a real person at the clinic answers.
Does microneedling hurt? +
Comfort is discussed and managed before starting. Most people find it manageable, and sensation varies with the depth being treated.
How is Dermapen different from DermaPro RF? +
Dermapen is microneedling alone. DermaPro RF adds radiofrequency energy through the needles, so it also works on skin firmness. Dermapen is often the more targeted option where texture or scarring is the main concern.
Is there downtime? +
Redness similar to mild sunburn is expected afterwards, and varies by person and depth. We will tell you what to plan around at your appointment, before we start.
How many sessions will I need? +
It is a course treatment. Texture often needs fewer sessions than scarring; a course of four is usual for scarring and stretch marks.
Can it be used on the body? +
Yes. Stretch marks and body scarring are common reasons for treatment, alongside face and neck work.
Will it get rid of my scars completely? +
No. The realistic aim is an improvement in the appearance and texture of scarring rather than removal.
How soon can I wear makeup? +
We will give you specific aftercare guidance on the day, including when it is sensible to return to your usual routine.
Can I combine it with other treatments? +
Often, yes. We will advise what makes sense for your skin and in what order.
