Why does scarring need a course?
Acne scarring is a structural change in the skin. Where inflammation has damaged tissue, the skin has healed with collagen arranged differently from the surrounding area, which is what creates the visible indentation or texture.
Treatment works by prompting the skin to remodel that tissue — producing new collagen and reorganising what is there. That is a biological process which happens gradually and incrementally.
One session prompts one round of that response. Meaningful change comes from repeating it, which is why scarring is treated as a course rather than a single appointment.

Not all acne scarring is the same
Acne scarring takes different forms, and they do not all respond in the same way. Some scarring is a textural change at the surface; some is a deeper indentation; some is primarily a difference in colour rather than texture.
This matters because it determines both which treatment we recommend and what is realistic to expect. Textural scarring generally responds better than deep, tethered scarring.
We assess the scarring at your appointment and tell you honestly what we think can be achieved before you commit to a course.
Dermapen or DermaPro RF for scarring?
Dermapen is microneedling alone, working at a controlled depth to prompt collagen remodelling.
DermaPro RF adds radiofrequency energy delivered through the needles, which reaches the treated layer directly and also addresses skin firmness.
Which is more appropriate depends on the scar type and your skin. Neither is universally better, and in some cases a combination across a course is the sensible answer.
What can and cannot be achieved
Treatment aims to improve the appearance and texture of acne scarring. It does not remove scarring, and we would rather set an accurate expectation than an appealing one.
Results vary between individuals and by scar type. Some people see a clearer difference than others, and deep or tethered scarring is harder to change than surface texture.

No, and we would not claim that. The realistic aim is an improvement in the appearance and texture of scarring.

How long does a course take? +
Sessions are spaced to allow the skin to recover and remodel between them. We will map out the timing at your appointment.

Is there downtime? +

How many sessions will I need? +
A course of four is usual, with the discount applied. Some scarring benefits from more, which we would discuss as the course progresses.
